Dangers of Nightime Swimming

Swimming is one of the most popular recreational activities in Florida, especially as the summer heats up. With temperature still high at night, it can be tempting to take an evening swim in Florida's lakes and oceans. However, it is important to recognize that nighttime swimming dramatically increases the risk of drowning.

Several weeks ago, Joel Johnson, a 21-year-old English major from Lauderhill, went for a late-night swim in a Florida Gulf Coast University lake, where he drowned surrounded by about 10 people.

As reported by Naplesnews.com, Lee County Sheriff's Office investigators stated that Johnson drowned as he and several other students tried to swim out to a water trampoline at about 1 a.m. In a 911 call, two people on the scene told dispatchers that Johnson had said he could swim, but he went underwater before reaching the trampoline.

Johnson's body was recovered at 3:16 a.m. by members of the San Carlos Park Fire Department. The trampoline was located about 50 feet from the shoreline, and the water was believed to be about 10 feet deep in the area.

To stay safe, Floridians are encouraged to avoid swimming at night, especially in areas that you do not know well. The lack of light can make you lose your orientation and miscalculate your distance from the shore.

I began working for the Dellutri Law Group nervous December 31st, 2007. I was so about starting somewhere new, as most people would be. I remember thinking attorneys were so scary and intimidating, my only experience with attorneys were during some divorce proceedings, I've got to say that was not the best first impression. Then my husband's friend David Lampley became an attorney and I began to see them in a different light, I knew he was a great guy. Then I met Carmen, I already knew his mother who of course couldn't say enough good things about him she's his mom, but she was right he's awesome. He is a powerhouse of energy and ideas, always striving to make things better, always pushing forward & always available to help.  I'd be willing to bet that's not something that everyone out there can say about their boss, and I don't take that for granted.

Everyone else at the office was just so nice and welcomed me in as if I'd always been here Ronnie & Evelyn were always so patient even when I asked a question that I know I had already asked before. I started at the front desk doing what I will claim was a little bit of everything. Our office was a lot smaller then and everything began at the front desk, as it still does today. We've added a lot of people to the Dellutri Law Group family since then and I have changed positions and desks more times than I can count. Now I am the office manager and there is still the same positive can do spirit no matter where I sit everyone is willing to chip in and help one another. I really appreciate all of the people that I work with I hope they all know they can depend on me as I depend on them and together we can run the good race.

What is the American Dream?  I have   been asking  myself this for the last several years as I watched countless people lose their jobs, make the decision to walk away from their homes, or just watch their personal security disappear in the stock market.  I've discussed this very topic with many people, old and young, and the only thing I can tell you is that the American Dream means something different to everyone. I know it is a moving target.  The Dream changes as our lives change over the years.  We have the Right to change our American Dream as citizens of the United States of America.  I know that my American Dream evolved throughout my life.

I believe we all need to ask ourselves at this point in time in our lives:  What does the American Dream mean to me? And if it means anything at all, you must then ask yourself:  What am I going to do about it?

Since I was little, I've heard different definitions of the American Dream.  I learned that all men are created equally and that Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness was set forth in the Declaration of Independence.  I learned that throughout history people died to protect these unalienable rights.  I also learned that while I have a right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, no-one was going to hand it to me on a silver platter.  I had to work for it to make it my own.  In other words, I had to work hard to pursue my happiness.  I was the one who defined happiness for me.  I was the one who worked for it, and I was the one who would enjoy it.  For some people, the American Dream is owning a big house or a fancy car.  For me, it's simple, I live to hear two little voices scream the two most wonderful words in the world after a long day of work.  "Dad's Home".  Was that my American Dream 10 years ago, No.  Will it be my American Dream in 10 years?  I don't know, I can only hope they still feel that way.

There are a lot of people out of work right now in this Country.  These are good, honest and hard-working people who are ready, willing and able to contribute to society.  What is their American Dream?  Is it the same as it was 2 years ago?  5 years ago?  Do they have kids?  What are their dreams for their children?  Grandchildren?

As Americans, we were promised the right to pursue happiness, and we still have that today.  Are we really pursuing happiness as fully and forcefully as we can?  Have we defined our happiness with our spouses or significant others in our lives?  Have we defined what it is going to take to pursue our happiness?  Or, have we given up?  As Americans, we know that we never give up.  Giving up is not in our Genetic Code.  We don't know how to give up.  Some Americans try, but they are never really successful at it.  We don't give up.  We fight and We Win.

I know times are tough, but I also know that no-one is going to provide happiness for me either.  Therefore, I am not going to let anyone define my American Dream.  I am going to keep on working, dreaming and praying.  I am not going to wait for the Federal Government and/or the State Government to do anything for me.  What do they know about my prayers, hopes and dreams?  As long as I have a breath left in this body, I will keep re-defining my American Dream and my Pursuit of Happiness.  What about you?

August is

National Motorsports Awareness Month!

Unfortunately, the number of Florida motorcycle crashes, fatalities, and injuries has increased in recent years. In fact, the number of motorcycle crashes and injuries more than doubled between the late 1990s and 2008.

Since the repeal of the helmet law in 2000, the number of fatal crashes for every 10,000 registered motorcycles increased by 21 percent, clearly suggesting motorcyclists without helmets are more likely to suffer serious and fatal injuries.

In order to stay safe on the road, motorcyclists should always wear a helmet and practice motorcycle safety. At the same time, drivers in cars and trucks should drive with care when sharing the road with a motorcycle.
