Florida Dog Bite Injuries: High Risk Breeds

Florida has certain laws in place that are used to classify dogs as dangerous. Because any dog can bite and cause injury, the determination is not based on the breed of the dog but rather his past behavior. Nonetheless, statistics show that some breeds of dogs are more dangerous than others and, therefore, could be more prone to cause a Florida dog bite injury.

Below is a list of breeds that the Centers for Disease Control listed as most dangerous based on the number of fatal human attacks caused.

Pit Bull: The Pit Bull tops the CDC's list of dangerous breeds, with 66 dog bite-related deaths from 1979-1988.

Rottweiler: The CDC says the Rottweiler ranked second in dog bite-related fatalities with 39 deaths from 1979-1988. When combined, Rottweiler and Pit Bull breeds were involved in approximately 60 percent of human deaths in the CDC's study.

German Shepherds: The CDC reports German Shepherds were involved in 17 dog bite-related fatalities from 1979-1988.

Husky: Husky-type dogs were responsible for 15 dog bite-related fatalities from 1979-1988, ranking the breed fourth on the CDC's list.

Malamute: The breed was involved in 12 dog bite-related fatalities from 1979-1988, ranking it fifth on the CDC's list.

Doberman Pinscher: These dogs were involved in nine dog bite-related fatalities from 1979-1988, ranking it sixth on the CDC's list.

Chow Chow: This breed ranks seventh in dog bite-related fatalities from 1979-1988 with eight.

Employee Spotlight: Janice Yates

I started working for the Dellutri Law Group in March, 2003.  At that time, the firm was much smaller and I began working as the receptionist.  Let's just say it didn't take me very long to realize that I loved working for Mr. Dellutri.  He and the staff immediately made me feel right at home and I soon found that helping people through a very tough time was so rewarding.  After a couple of years, I was fortunate enough to move into the Personal Injury department, working for our PI attorney, Amanda Downing, who is absolutely amazing.  I have been in PI for about six years now and my job includes everything from taking calls from potential PI clients, initial consultations, all aspects of Pre-Litigation, as well as handling the cases if we file a lawsuit and then move the case into litigation.  Eight years later, this law firm has grown tremendously and we have become one big family.

Carmen's Note

 carmen

People find inspiration in some of the most unusual places. I look for it everywhere. If you think about it, there are really only three things we need to consider:

1) The Past

2) The Present

3) The Future

We all remember the trials and tribulations of the past. The things we did and did not do and the decisions we made, didn't make and those we regret making. The important thing about the past is to learn from it. We cannot re-write it, nor should we spend a great deal of time re-living the past.

The Present is where you are here and now. Simply put, we are living in the present and it is what it is. But the Future, now there is something to think about.

The Future is what you will make of it. I would rather think about the future than live in the past because I can change the future. I can chart my own course. I feel like the future is mine, and I am the one who will reap the benefits. You can change your future. You can create the future by making little changes each and every day going forward. If you changed something today, would you be better off tomorrow and the next day? What if you decided to read a book or a magazine on a subject you really liked? What if you read for 30 minutes a day on a topic in your profession? Where would you be in one year? What if you wanted to change your profession or expand your knowledge, and you began educating yourself on the profession that you wanted to grow into? How much time would it take? A commitment of 20 minutes a day. Can you afford that? What happens if you don't commit to the future? That is something that I don't want to think about. Ask yourself: am I being true to myself and my future?

Recipe Of The Month Pumpkin Risotto

3 cups diced (¼ inch) peeled seeded Japanese pumpkin (kabocha squash) or butternut squash

2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

2 large shallots, thinly sliced

1 cups carnaroli rice

½ cup dry white wine

2½ cups low-sodium chicken broth, heated to a simmer

2 tbsp heavy cream

1 tbsp unsalted butter

Freshly ground black pepper

2 ounces Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese

2 tbsp finely chopped flat-leaf parsley

Cover pumpkin with cold water by 1 inch in a medium saucepan and bring to a simmer; add a generous pinch salt and cook until pumpkin is tender, about 4 minutes. Drain, transfer to a blender, add 3 to 4 tbsp. water and purée until smooth. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add shallot and cook, stirring occasionally, until shallot is softened, about 7 minutes. Add rice and cook, stirring constantly, until rice is translucent, about 5 minutes. Add wine and cook until wine is mostly absorbed, then add 1 cup broth and cook, stirring, until liquid is mostly absorbed, 5 to 7 minutes. Add ½ cup more broth and cook, stirring, until mostly absorbed. Repeat once, then add pumpkin and stir to combine. In ½ cupfuls, add remaining broth, stirring until each addition is mostly absorbed before adding the next, until rice is tender yet still slightly firm to the bite (you may not use all the broth). Stir in cream and butter, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Divide risotto among bowls; shave cheese over the top and sprinkle with parsley. Serve immediately
