Thin Blue Line Motorcycle Tragedy: What You Need to Know About Riding in Florida

Three members of the Thin Blue Line motorcycle club were killed on July 18th while riding in the Texas Hill Country. A drunk driver crossed the yellow line on the road that the motorcycle club was traveling and proceeded to run over the pack of bikers. Three members of the motorcycle club were killed immediately, and others sustained significant injuries.

The Thin Blue Line is a law enforcement motorcycle club with members throughout the United States and consists of front-line law enforcement workers. This particular accident happened in Texas, but many similar accidents are occurring in Florida regularly - in fact, our firm is working on one of those accidents currently.

It’s essential to understand what your insurance does and does not cover in Florida should an accident as this one occur. Florida has some of the worst automobile and motorcycle insurance coverage, and most people think that’s adequate but it’s not.

If you ride a motorcycle, not having the right insurance is a major mistake (and one that we see too often).

Personal injury insurance will cover the cost of your medical bills. Still, it will not cover bodily injuries or the economic impact (loss of wage, hiring additional help, etc.) of a significant accident.

The only way that you will gain this essential coverage is to purchase an insurance policy that specifically protects you in case an accident happens -- and this is not the average Geico or State Farm insurance package.

Trying to save money on insurance will cost you and your family in the long run. It is much wiser to purchase extra coverage and ride knowing that you are safe if anything happens.

I cannot bring people back to life. I cannot replace a lost family member. But, I can make your life easier by getting you the money that you deserve if someone in your family has been injured in an accident. I can also make sure the policy that you currently have is adequate by reviewing your current insurance package.

The Thin Blue Line accident is a tragedy, but it can happen to anyone at any time. Ensure that you are adequately covered, and make sure that you hire a firm you can trust to get the compensation you deserve if you or a family member is injured in a motorcycle accident.

To donate to the Thin Blue Line, take a look at the club’s website. The members of the club would also love the opportunity to speak at any upcoming events in order to spread the word about the club’s mandate and mission. If you happen to know of any such events, please contact the club to inquire.

Update: a 4th member of the Thin Blue Line motorcycle club succumbed to injuries this past weekend.
