Answering a complaint isn't the easiest thing in the world. Doing a general denial is fairly easy, but answering a complaint is more difficult. When you answer a complaint, you want to set forth all of your legal defenses and your affirmative defenses. If you're not an attorney, it's difficult to know what your defenses are. There are a lot of consumer protection statutes, which may provide protection to the consumer under your particular circumstances.
