If I File Bankruptcy, Will I have to go to Court?

The answer to this question is, “maybe.” The reality is this: when you file for bankruptcy, you will have to attend a meeting of creditors. That meeting of creditors will be in the Federal courthouse, either in Tampa or Fort Myers. When you go in, you won’t go to the courtroom. Instead, you’ll go to a meeting room. Very few people will ever have to go inside of a courtroom during bankruptcy. Most of the time, no creditors will show up during your meeting of creditors. If they do show up, they won’t be able to be rude or disrespectful. All they can do is ask you questions about your debt. Normally, an attorney from our law firm will be with you at the meeting of creditors, meaning you’ll never be alone in the meeting. Watch the video to learn more.
