What can I do About Somebody Threatening to Have me Arrested if I Don’t Pay my Debt?

Under the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act, it's illegal to threaten to have someone arrested if they don't pay back a debt. That statute allows debt collectors to say certain things to you when they’re trying to collect a debt, but it also makes other things illegal. Threatening to have you arrested is something they’re not allowed to say to you. When you get that type of phone call, make a record of those calls by writing down everything that’s said to you, the time and day, the phone number it’s coming from and the person you’re speaking with. This will give you evidence in a potential lawsuit against those people.
