Florida Girl Mauled by Pit Bull Terrier Mix Outside Apartment

A young Florida girl is lucky to be alive after being viciously attacked by a pit bull terrier mix dog outside of her Palm River home.

As Fort Myers accident attorneys, we know the most tragic part of this dog bite accident is that it could have been avoided. According to Hillsborough County Animal Services, the owner of the dog knew or should have known that the dog was dangerous. It reportedly had already bitten two other dogs and the leg of another neighbor. In the most recent attack, the dog was tethered with a chain. However, when Destiny McKenzie fell down some stairs and into the dog's reach, he attacked. TampaBay.com reports Animal Services is calling for the dog’s owner to be criminally charged.

Under Florida law, if an owner knows about a dog's "dangerous propensities" and fails to take proper precautions, the owner can be charged with a second-degree misdemeanor if the dog later injures someone. Of course, Florida dog attacks may result in a civil personal injury lawsuit as well.
