Throughout his professional career, Dellutri Law Group attorney David W. Fineman has always wanted to help people. Before David, a Southwest Florida native, started practicing law, he was a deputy for the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and an officer for Punta Gorda Police Department.
“Originally, I wanted to go into law enforcement and went to law school so I could join the FBI,” David said. “But after my first year of law school, my desires changed. I wanted to use the knowledge I was acquiring in the community by practicing law in the courtroom. So I traded my badge and gun for a suit and pen.”
David began practicing law in Punta Gorda in 2007. He earned an undergrad degree from the Florida Gulf Coast University, and he obtained his Juris Doctorate from Barry University School of Law. In fact, he achieved one of the top scores on the 2007 Florida bar exam. He has since worked in several areas of the law, including criminal law, personal injury, construction law, and real estate law. But it wasn’t long before David moved into consumer protection and bankruptcy law. David learned bankruptcy law on his own from the ground up. The more cases he took on, the better he became at handling each case. Today, consumer bankruptcy law is one of his specialties.
“That first year in bankruptcy law was tough,” David said. “But I was able to help a bunch of people gets through hard times. Since the average bankruptcy case can be open for five years, I get to work with my clients for a long time. I am still helping some of my very first clients that started with me when I first began practicing, and that makes me proud.” Being able to help people over a period of time is something, David says, that keeps him coming back to practicing law. And even when he finally says goodbye to his long-time clients, David keeps the line of communication open.
“I make sure to tell my clients to come back and see me if they ever need anything,” David explained. “Helping people is my No. 1 pride point. When clients get to move on from bankruptcy or other situations and are in a better place, it makes everything worth it. At the end of the day, I hope I make their experience with us good during such a hard time.”
No matter what, David gives his clients the best he can. And he tries to put a positive spin on every interaction. He’s thorough and empathetic, and there’s no better kind of person to help our clients. When David isn’t working with clients, he loves being on the water and the other outdoor activities Florida has to offer.
