Florida Teens Seek to Lower Date Rape Numbers

It'’s not every day that teens invent something that can change the world, but that’s exactly what three Gulliver Preparatory School students are trying to do. Victoria Roca, Susana Cappello, and Carolina Baigorri recently came across a scary date rape statistic - one in every five women are date raped. The girls hope to lower that number with a straw. But it’s not just any straw.

The straw that the three entrepreneurs have created contains two test strips. If a drink has been laced with a date rape drug, the straw will change color. It’s a simple idea that has garnered a decent amount of press, and while the girls know that it won’t end rape, they hope that it will help.

Take a look at the prototype for a straw that could prevent some date rapes from happening HERE.
