Eyedrop Recall

Eyedrop Recall Attorneys in Florida

Lawsuits for Eye Injuries Caused by Eyedrops

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled several eyedrop brands that have been linked to eye injuries, blindness, and death. The Dellutri Law Group, PA is looking into the situation and offering our legal counsel and representation to injured eyedrop users in Florida. It is likely that multidistrict litigation (MDL) will be used soon to pursue legal action against the makers of the unsafe eyedrops, which have become contaminated with bacteria.

Recalled Eyedrop Products

The four eyedrop recalls have targeted a few brands that are used to treat dry or irritated eyes, as well as people with increased ocular pressure symptoms.

The FDA has recalled these eyedrop products and brands so far:

  • EzriCare - Artificial Tears Lubricant Eye Drops
  • Delsam - Pharma Artificial Eye Ointment
  • Apotex - Brimonidine Tartrate Ophthalmic Solution, 0.15%
  • Pharmedica - Purely Soothing, 15% MSM Drops
  • Aru Pharma Lubricant Eye Drops

Affected batches of these products were sold in California, Texas, New York, Florida, New Jersey, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Connecticut. If you own any of these products, most of which are sold by Global Pharma Healthcare, then you should stop using them immediately. Seal the container tightly before placing it in a location that is inaccessible to children and pets.

Next, call (800) 391-4337 to speak with our eyedrops recall lawyers. We can tell you when to discard the product, which we might want to inspect first. No matter what, don’t send the product back to the manufacturer, which will give the defendant in a possible lawsuit the most important piece of concrete evidence.

Injuries Caused by Unsafe Eyedrops

Each type of recalled eyedrop appears to have been contaminated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria or another similar type of bacteria. Exposure to such bacteria can trigger severe infections, especially in people with immune system deficiencies. FDA research shows that dozens of people have suffered eye injuries and related complications due to the contaminated eyedrops, as well as at least one person who passed away from complications caused by an eye infection.

Eye infection caused by contaminated eyedrops has been linked to:

  • Permanent eye injury
  • Temporary vision loss
  • Total blindness
  • Death

None of the eyedrops in the recalls are manufactured with benzalkonium chloride (BAK), a common preservative used in eyedrop solutions. While BAK has been linked to dry eye and eye irritation in some users, it also stops bacteria from multiplying in the solution.

Will Eyedrop Users Be Compensated?

The Dellutri Law Group, PA and our eyedrop recall attorneys are researching the situation to determine what legal action can be taken against the eyedrop manufacturers. If so, we are also working to calculate what types of damages could be owed to injured plaintiffs and their families.

Damages in an eyedrop recall lawsuit could include:

  • Medical treatment costs, including future treatments and surgeries.
  • Costs of living changes caused by blindness.
  • Lost wages if vision loss causes income loss.
  • Lessened enjoyment of life caused by eye injuries and vision loss.
  • Emotional trauma if a loved one passed away from an eye infection.
